Engaging in Art with John Glover

Why do you create art?
I have always created artwork. I can't remember when I started. The ability to create art is the way I communicate. It is also the way I understand things. So to express my thoughts and understanding, I create art.

How important is art to our culture?
Every genre of art is what our culture is built around. Art inspired the movement and the motivation for our cultures. Without art, people become stale, mechanical and confined mentally. In some ways we lose the connection to our soul. So the importance of art to our culture is a lifeline mentally and emotionally.

Tell us about the many ways you have learned or observed art from others.
I'm a huge fan of art. I love creativity from people. Now I look more at the techniques or construction of the work opposed to the narrative. I like to look at the way things were assembled. Whether it be the brush strokes, variety of marks or the assemblage of things. It's amazing the things that the hand could do when directed by a creatively thinking mine.

How do you feel your art has impacted people?
I think the work that I do is meant to engage people in a way of conversation. Much of my work is meant to ask the questions. It offers up an opportunity for the work to be challenged. It also invites the free thinking of the viewer without judgment.

What does success look like for you in the art world? 
There are many ways to gauge success in the art world. I'm no different than any other artists .
1 I would like international recognition and representation. 
2.Invitations to the larger national and international solo and group shows. 
3.Presence in museums and prestigious collections
4. Consistent sales and the ability to sustain my lifestyle at a specific level
5. Stay at a high level of production and great work.
These things are consistent with many artists. But there's one other thing that I think is important to my idea of success. When the viewer is captivated in their discoveries so much that they cannot pull themselves away from the work. This falls within the guidelines of my idea of success.
