ABOUT URBAN ARTS COLLECTIVE
Urban Arts Collective (UAC) is a Dallas based 501c3 organization that uses art to tell stories from a black and brown perspective. For 13 years, Urban Arts Collective has used theater, music, dance, visual and literary arts to engage local, national and international communities. UAC is committed to cultivating the talent of emerging artists, providing platforms for career artists and celebrating the work of established artists from the African American perspective.
After 13 years of nomadic producing, in January 2020 Urban Arts Collective secured their theatrical producing home at 807 Hutchins Rd, Dallas, TX 75203. Before moving into the Hutchins locations, UAC produced productions at The Black Academy of Arts and Letters in Dallas, TX, the Apollo Theater in New York City, Lula Washington Dance Theater in Los Angeles and Tago International Center in Atlanta, GA.
Some of UAC signature productions include “A Christmas Carol: A Soulful Tale,” “Southside Story,” “Colored Museum,” and “Stage Black: A Festival of New Plays.” UAC partners with many community organizations to allow performance space for weekly open mic and poetry shows, charity concerts and community events. UAC also served as co-producer for the last public performance of the legendary Ruby Dee at the world-famous Apollo Theater. UAC offers free to low-cost instruction in theater, dance, music and technical production.
To address the disparity in media coverage for artists of color across all genres, UAC created the free quarterly publication Urban Arts Magazine. Urban Arts Magazine is dedicated to exploring the cultural voices that make up the American Arts landscape. Covering everything from music to dance to visual arts to culinary arts, UAM offers the value of a trusted insider perspective with a fresh, bold, nonconforming lens. Breathing life into the intersection of what truly is URBAN and what truly is ART, this publication appeals to both the arts professional and the arts lover.
