The Show Runner | Dr. Louis Deon Jones

What has your experience been like as an Executive Producer? 
My experience as an Executive Producer has been a blessing because I've been able to learn how to run a full production by bringing stories to life with a team of people who share a similar vision. An Executive Producer/Show Runner can have its challenges because the entire production can fall on you and you become responsible for making sure the entire project comes together which sometimes can be stressful but rewarding. 

What has it been like being nominated for an Emmy?
I studied the Emmy process and learned how to submit my projects to the Emmys. I used to watch Oscars, Grammys, Emmys, Tonys and other award shows and had my mind set on winning these awards one day. When I won my Emmy, I wasn't shocked that I won an award but I didn't believe that it would happen in the first two years of my career. 

What have you learned most about yourself during the production? 
I learned that I am a natural leader. I learned that I love creating art and have free range to create any story I want to create without judgement. I found love in helping people make their dreams come true with my scripts and projects. It's the best feeling in the world to provide for people on and off camera.

Tell us about your project.
The Emmy Winning Film, 'The Girl in Apartment 15' is a film about a concerned neighbor who finds himself struggling to make a decision to save his neighbor who he suspects as being abused by her boyfriend. After being convinced by his peers to "mind his business" which leads to an unexpected situation. NoHo: A North Hollywood is a great episodic digital series that is to educate people on how to survive and navigate the industry. We see so many people in Hollywood who gets caught up in the industry's drama and this project is a blueprint on things we could do to not fall victim to the industry's drama.

What has been the most difficult experience with this project?
The most difficult is casting projects on subjects that are not progressive in our current world. I was casting for a male lead in film about a male being in love with a transgender woman and I have over 45 males aduition for the role but turned it down due to being afraid of the response from the black community and world. I love creating films that push the culture forward but it is hard to cast when the world is not open to certain stories. 

What other projects are in the pipeline?
I have NoHo: A North Hollywood Story, Season 2 currently streaming on www.LouisJonesTV.com, which is about black millennials living in North Hollywood who are trying to make it big in the entertainment industry but are faced with challenges that question their morals and values. I'm also currently in pre-productions regarding a film about a middle class millennial married couple who are seeking to expand their family through surrogacy. This film is to educate people about the process of surrogacy.

Dr. Louis is known for his award winning digital series, Cycles and NoHo: A North Hollywood Story. He is the writer, producer, and director of several short films such as The Good Teacher, A Hopeless Father, Can I Be Me?, Divided, Guess Who's Coming to Dinner? and Produced the Daytime Emmy Award winning film, 'The Girl in Apartment 15' which earned him a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Daytime Fiction Program.
