What is the significance of being a Fair Elections Candidate in the District? 

I believe there are many qualified candidates worthy of elected office across the country, and in the District. However access to information and resources is a significant barrier—often times—which is why when DC passed into law the Fair Elections Act, it allowed for candidates, such as myself, to be publicly funded.  That means I can accept small dollar contributions from District residents, which get matched 5-to-1, once a threshold amount of donors is met.  It potentially gives more residents the feeling of having meaningful participation in the democratic process. 


The Law gives access to funds for candidates who are not backed by special interest groups, or who have the means to fund their own campaigns while giving more the access to residents who want to make change in this city  This is a law I want to see replicated around the country—and proud of the District for being such a leader.

Where are you in the process of qualifying for the Fair Elections Program? 

As a candidate for Ward 7, I needed 150 or more District residents to donate. I’m proud to announce that after launching my campaign on November 13th, our campaign has hit that 150 donor mark and exceeded it.  I’m excited about that, and grateful to each and every donor from DC and across the country who believe in giving me a shot to make change in the city that is my home. A city I love and a city I want the honor to represent to make a better, safer, and more equitable place for all its residents. 

How do you believe being elected as Councilmember for Ward 7 will help the District?

DC is a unique place. We’re fighting to be treated as a state every day, by having control of our budget, and autonomy of our laws. Moreover, the laws we put in place must uplift every resident and make government more efficient and accountable to its residents it’s charged to support.  Beyond the legislative initiatives, it’s showing up for your constituents by having your streets paved, well lighted, trash removed in a timely fashion, free of harmful elements in your neighborhood—which can be anything from risks to the environment such as air quality to the common criminal act. 

Have you ever run for Office? 

As an elected ANC commissioner, I have done the work in my community. ANCs support the neighbors and feed information back to the Mayor’s office, among other responsibilities. Now is the time to take the work I’ve done forward.  Ran for this role in 2020, and I’m back at it again, but better this time. 



The Political climate has people feeling as though their vote doesn't matter. Why should people vote?

Vote. Vote. Vote! Your voice does matter. And the other thing is there is not a right answer like a multiple choice test. Believe in a candidate, feed their campaign with support, and show up and show out on Election Day. Every vote counts as we have seen. 

How can the people be supportive of your campaign?

This campaign is about the People. I’ll be sending out information where the people can meet me, and I can earn their support. So any repost of a  tweet, social media post, text, email would be great. I hope we connect via  phone call, meeting, door knocking, while getting signatures for petitions, etc. I'm looking forward to the process.
