How do you feel African Americans have impacted the arts?
African Americans have had an invaluable impact on the arts. From music to art to literature to the stage, our cultural influence can be seen everywhere. African Americans have a unique way of leaving our heart and soul as a part of whatever project that we undertake. The shared values and experiences that so many of us possess can be seen in every aspect of the arts. 

Tell us about your book.
Every Kid's A Superhero empowers young people all around the world through an affirmational poem meant to be read aloud daily and serve as a constant reinforcement of just how amazing that they truly are. It reminds us that we all have a superhero that lives insides each of us.

What is your favorite book entry and why?
"I am special. I am brave. I can dream unafraid because I know that I'm going to win."
 
What do you hope the impact will be from your book?
I hope that my book inspires a generation of young people to believe in themselves and reinforce that no matter the circumstance - as long as you believe in yourself, there is no feat that you can't accomplish. 

How important is the role of a man for a boy?
The role of a man is critical to a boy. It takes a man to teach a boy how to become one. A man guides a boy through his journey into adulthood and instills in him the critical values for him to become a good man, husband, father, son, professional, etc. 

What is true mentorship?
True mentorship to me is the art of guiding another person by instilling in them values that are important to you, aiding them in becoming the best versions of themselves, helping them navigate major life decisions and being a constant source of support and encouragement. 

How do you establish the relationship between mentor and mentee?
Honestly, the best mentor/mentee relationships for me have been organically built. While I've mentored in an official capacity through organizations, I also mentor through relationships that I build with others by happenstance. I usually try to get to know my mentors/mentees before engaging in the conversation where the mentor/mentee relationship is solidified.
