A Mighty Long Way with Sharon Kimbrough
Why was it the right time for you to become an author in such a competitive industry?
My memoir traces my spiritual and professional journey, so I listened to God for direction on when it was the right time to publish my book. To be quite honest, I didn’t even consider the competitive industry. I was just obedient to God who said," Now is the time."
What kind of healing did you experience having written about your life?
As I recounted these heartwarming stories, I experienced emotional healing. I remembered the love, fun, laughter, sadness and the crying. It was all a part of my healing process. I thank God that He gives us memories for us to hold on to and rejoice in them. When I was writing the sad stories, I would feel sad. I also had some good laughs at the funny stories. One that was especially funny was the story about when my sister and I stole a Christmas tree at ages four and six. My mother's reaction when she saw us carrying the fir tree up the stairs to our apartment was priceless.
Tell us about your book.
"How Far is a Mighty Long Way?" is my memoir and my testimony. I have titled each chapter a Mile. At the end of each Mile, I tell you the lessons that I learned from that mile. Those lessons helped me to grow. In the book, there are sad moments that may make you cry and there are moments that will make you chuckle. Just like life, it's filled with some ups and downs. But in the end, I am victorious and grateful. The book is meant to inspire the reader knowing that God will see you through all of the storms of life, and if you keep the faith, He will order your steps. The book includes family photos.
What does success look like for you?
Success looks like a lot of things. It looks like a movie deal based on my memoir. I've had several people ask me if I intend to make a movie of my book. I have some ideas about how the story could be written. Success also looks like my book occupying a place on the New York Times Best Sellers' list. I want the world to know about the book and to be encouraged by it. Finally, success would mean I would make money and be able to share it with my family.
Where can people purchase your book?
The book and e-book (Kindle) are available on Amazon.com. The book is $15.00 and the e-book is $5.99.
How do you incorporate your faith with all of your professional years in the industry?
I write plays for my church that have a Christian theme. I also produce and direct the plays. I have an opportunity to interact with the church members as I invite them to be a part of the plays. The congregation seems to really enjoy them. I make sure that we always have fun performing them.
What has been the most memorable comment you have gotten regarding the book?
The response to the book has been amazing. Readers have said several great things, but the one that's the most memorable is:
“How Far is a Mighty Long Way? is a poignant, autobiographical story that will likely touch the heart of the reader, as it did mine. Ms. Kimbrough is a living example of how faith in God will enable us to overcome the many challenges that life offers. Through her story, I am reminded numerously that God is a healer—a broken-heart fixer. After suffering two losses within several months, I didn't know how I could possibly move forward in life. Ms. Kimbrough's book gave me hope and assured me that I could make it through the losses that I experienced. It is truly a heart-warming and easy-to-read narrative. “
I have been so encouraged by the reviews. Some of them have been posted on Amazon.
